Green, green valleys

The views from Cyfie are spectacular at the moment, looking down the lush green Vyrnwy valley - none of the drought ridden landscape here !! The garden is looking fantastic, with the huge red poppies in full bloom, penstemon and blue salvias, delphiniums and lacy gypsophilia giving a colourful backdrop to the lovely variety of roses that are just beginning to bloom. It's just pure heaven to sit in the garden with the wonderful view, the silence of the landscape, only broken by the chattering of the busy swooping swallows.

Woodpecker Family at Cyfie Farm

A family of Greater Spotted Woodpeckers are feeding here all day. The parents have their work cut out feeding their 3 babies in turn. Guests can watch them in comfort from their suite windows.

Successful Open Evening

Our open evening for the National Garden Scheme was a great success with over 100 people present. The concert comprised a Harpist, Choirs, a String Orchestra and a Rock Singer; the standard was stunning. Many thanks to everyone involved. It looks like we raised over £500 for the National Garden Scheme charities.

We plan to repeat the event next year - watch this space!

Cyfie Farm National Gardens Scheme Music Evening 29 May

We are opening our garden again this year for The National Gardens Scheme on Sunday the 29th May. This year, the garden will be open in the evening between 5:30 and 8pm. There will be wine and refreshments available and a musical backdrop. The music will comprise of a harpist, local choir, and string team. Entrance is £3.50 and there is ample parking available. The Siskins and Goldfinches are eating us out of house and home at the moment. The Thistle seed is disappearing very quickly as the weather perks up and we enter the nesting season. We have seen Redpolls and the first Redstarts too.

The Swallows returned to Cyfie on the 14th April this year - about a week later than last year and 2 weeks later than the year before that. Perhaps we are in for a better summer this year?

Lake Vyrnwy Features on BBC Countryfile

Lake Vyrnwy was the main feature on last night's BBC Countryfile edition. Fairytale Lake Vyrnwy is in a beautiful location and a spectacular setting amongst the Berwyn Mountains. Despite the felling of Britain's Tallest Tree following a storm, a new 'Tallest Tree for England and Wales has been discovered now at the Lake. The Lake provides an interesting day out for all ages and there is lots to do in the area; ideal for a longer stay too.
